If you are not a technology buff, learning about new things like digital cameras and all of these latest and greatest devices that are out on the market can be burdensome. If you have been researching or maybe just purchased a new digital camera, then you have probably purchased or looked into SD memory cards. The "SD" actually stands for secure digital. The best way I can describe this memory card is that it is like a small cartridge that is inserted into a myriad of electronics devices. The basis for their existence is that, for example, some photography cameras no longer use actual film for taking the pictures and instead a digital photograph is taken. The SD card is the storage vessel that allows for the pictures, videos, or music, or whatever you are storing to be stored. One great feature is that these types of cards are compatible with a lot of different devices. I can take the SD memory card I have out of my camera and put in directly in my computer and browse the files. I can also store things on these little cards and transport information from work to home.
There are lots of different types of memory cards out there. Sony makes a different type of memory card called a memory stick. This type has a distinctly different shape and would not generally work in a device that uses an SD card. This is not true all of the time, due to some devices having multiple memory slots. These memory cards are very useful and can help anyone who needs room to store files. They can also be helpful if you need to share information with a friend and you can mail it to them because they are so small. they can also be used to transport information to and from work. I personally store pictures and music on my card. I recently purchased a digital video camcorder that runs completely off of these types of cards and does not use a tape at all. My entire music collection fits on one 8 gigabyte stick with all my photos and movie files also.
