Tips to Help You Buy a Laptop Power Charger
By Shalini M | Submitted On January 27, 2019

Theoretically speaking, a laptop charger should stand the test of time. However, in reality, they don't last that long. They may get damaged or stolen, for instance. If your charger is not working, you won't be able to charge or use your laptop. So, it's important that you get a new one from a nearby office supply store or electronics/computer shop. You can also buy them online. Given below are a few tips that can help you opt for the right one.
Don't Opt for a Universal Power Charger
While the universal charger is a good choice, it may not perform to your satisfaction. This type of charger supports a lot of models but their components can't meet the specific power requirements of some laptops. Typically, the problems are related to the fit, power tips, price, and voltage. So, it's better to get a branded one.
Don't Buy a Solar Charger
Solar chargers are eco-friendly and efficient. There is a difference between these and OEM models. Although they can be safely used with most types of machines, we can't say for sure if they can work with all models.
Don't Go for a Cheap unit
Buying a cheap charger is not a good idea as it won't stand the test of time. In addition, cheap models tend to overheat the computer due to the inconsistency of power inflows. Therefore, they can't be considered a good solution.
Don't opt for Another Brand
If you choose a charger of a different brand, chances are that it won't fit. Due to low or high voltage, it may cause problems even if you manage to connect it to your device.
Go for The Recommended Charger
Make sure you opt for the right type of charger. You can get this type of information from a number of different places, such as your laptop bottom, old charger box, and the website of the manufacturer. If you are going to buy online, the item's specs can help you get this information.
Do Opt for an OEM unit
Ideally, most experts suggest that you get an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) unit as it's designed for the type and model of the computer you own. It can be hard to opt for the OEM unit. So, it's better to order online. Often, online stores have a huge selection of products that you can buy at competitive prices.
Choose a Generic Charger if you can't get an OEM one
If you want to buy a unit that is not designed for your own model, make sure the unit you want to buy is safe. Typically, they are compatible and safe to use. Although a generic unit may help you save a lot of money, it may not have enough power. Therefore, we suggest that you find out the power requirement of your charger before you get a unit.
Long story short, if you are going to buy the right charger for your laptop, we suggest that you consider the do's and don'ts mentioned in this article. Hope this helps.

I worked as a Computer Technician for the past 26 years. I was repairing Laptops, Desktops and Printers. I was taught in certifications that you need to use the correct AC Laptop Charger for your particular model and brand of laptop. If you use one not made for your laptop, it can be damaged. The best choice is to purchase the proper laptop charger. I only recommend a Universal AC Charger in an emergency for the short term. This way you do not risk damaging your laptop computer. Replacing a motherboard can be expensive.
Why Is My Laptop Battery Not Charging?
By Abdul Waheed Zafar | Submitted On April 07, 2021

If you have plugged in your laptop but it's not charging, there is definitely something wrong. At times, the battery is fully drained, which provides no power to the device. But if you have connected the adapter but there is no glowing light, no bright display, or no charging indicator, you should take a few steps to diagnose the problem. In this article, we are going to share with you a few tips to help you troubleshoot. Read on.
1. Make sure You are Plugged In
First of all, make sure that the laptop is plugged in. Also, check to make sure that the plug is properly seated. All the removal cords should be fully inserted and the battery should be seated properly.
2. Remove the Battery
If your laptop has a removable battery in it, take it out. Now, press and hold the power button for a couple of seconds. The idea is to drain the device completely. Afterward, plug in the device and switch on the laptop.
This trick should work properly. But if it doesn't, chances are that you have a bum battery that has to be replaced.
3. Use the Right USB-C Port
Today, USB-C is a standard connector for a lot of devices. It helps connect peripherals transfer data and recharge batteries. If you have a non-charging issue, check to see if you are not connected to the wrong port.
4. Use a powerful charger
If the adapter is not powerful enough, it won't charge your laptop battery. The wattage of the charger should be checked. Although a low-wattage charger may keep the battery from draining, it won't be powerful enough to charge it.
5. Check for Shorts, burnouts, and breaks
Check the cable for any breaks or kinks. The ends should have no broken connections. Sometimes, pets chew on adapter cables. The AC brick shouldn't be discolored and no parts should be expanded or warped. Also, sniff the AC brick to ensure it doesn't smell as if the plastic is not burnt. If it smells like this, you should try replacing the power connector.
6. Check the Connector
Make sure that the connector is fairly solid. There should be no dirt or dust in the jack. You can use a toothpick to clean the jack and plug it in once again. In some cases, the jack is loose or wobbly, which means that the jack is broken and needs to be repaired.
7. Beat the Heat
Batteries tend to overheat. When the temperature exceeds a certain limit, the sensor may misfire. This may cause charging issues as well. Typically, these problems are quite common in older laptops as they have a low-quality cooling system.
In this case, you should turn the device off and wait for a while to let the battery cool down. Also, make sure that the air vents are not clogged.
8. Change the Battery
If none of the tricks solve the problem, we suggest that you purchase a new power adapter or battery. It's better that you buy the battery from a reputable manufacturer. Using third-party batteries is not recommended.
In short, if your laptop battery is not charging, you can use these tips to troubleshoot and fix the problem.
If your laptop battery is bad, you should get a replacement battery. At replacement batteries, you can find a great collection of laptop batteries. This will help you make the best choice.

10 Reasons Why It's Better To Buy An Original Branded Laptop Charger
By Paul Mitty | Submitted On November 28, 2011

There is an abundance of online retailers selling cheap and duplicate laptop chargers. Several people regret their decision to buy a non-branded product on the very first day. In order to save just a few pounds, people end up damaging their expensive laptops and precious data. Here are the top 10 reasons why you should always buy a branded laptop charger:
1. Compatible Chargers are prone to power surges which can damage your laptop. Therefore, it is important to find a branded charger that is 100% compatible with your model.
2. Laptop manufacturers always recommend the use of a branded laptop charger. Laptop power supplies are an essential component that should never be taken for granted. Doing so can only lead to problems at a later date.
3. Manufacturers provide information on the type and make of the charger to their customers. This information is made available and easy to find on various product stamps or labels.
4. The Voltage and Amperage of the new adapter must match your original one. Universal chargers usually fail to meet this requirement. In fact, these chargers just tend to solve your issue temporarily. In the long run, they almost certainly end up having adverse effects on the health of a laptop.
5. Many universal laptop chargers are not even capable of preventing voltage fluctuations. Such fluctuations can burn electrical circuits in a laptop. The cost of these repairs can be extremely high compared to the cost of a new branded laptop charger.
6. On many occasions, non-branded chargers have caused severe damage to laptop motherboards. Duplicate chargers available in the market are manufactured with just profits in mind and are not built for safety at all.
7. It is not very difficult to find the right match for your laptop. You can visit the website of a trusted online seller of chargers or make a phone call to the manufacturer or original place of purchase.
8. In many cases, original chargers are less expensive than the multitude of different alternatives available in the market.
9. Nowadays, you can find duplicate laptop adapters at unbelievably low prices. Though they may seem a great proposition, you must understand that these chargers are not built for durability and safety at all.
10. Low quality laptop chargers can cause fatal shocks due to sparking or lose connections. Many others have weak insulation that simply fails to perform well at higher temperatures.
It makes no sense to buy a cheap non-branded laptop charger, no matter how inexpensive it is. Spending a little more on purchasing the right model and brand will ensure the longer life of your laptop. Nowadays, it is possible to find a dedicated online retailer that sell genuine laptop chargers supplied by different manufacturers. A customer has to only wait a few days before getting a laptop power supply that promises optimum performance.
